I have to admit, I never watched Mr. Show when it was on HBO. However, a good friend recently turned me on to the stand up comedy of David Cross. Brilliant! So I investigated Mr. Show.
Mr. show was one of the best sketch comedy shows out there, and it really pushed alot of buttons - no wonder it was on HBO (not broadcast tv). Similar to the Ben Stiller show (Cross was a writer on the Ben Stiller show), this is your standard sketch comedy, but with some dark humor underlying most of the jokes. Puns are often strung from sketch to sketch and no subject is taboo. I really enjoyed this set.
If you have never seen Mr. Show, you definitely need to rent this DVD series. If you enjoyed it during it's HBO run, this is a must own collection.

I recently watched a couple of episodes of Mr. Show. While there are some jokes and scenes that make me laugh (out loud), they take the joke and beat it to its death until it reincarnates as the next sketch. Like telling the same line of the same joke over and over again.
For the most part, Mr. Show is boring and unfunny.
