Review: Saturday Morning with Sid & Marty Krofft (A)

Saturday Morning with Sid & Marty Krofft
Review by Bobby Nashville
Grade: A

Rhino Video has released a nice collection of early Sid and Marty Krofft shows and this sampler contains the pilot episodes for seven of their best programs.

I guess I should point out that I was raised on Saturday morning television, big bowls of Captain Crunch and a healthy dose of Sid and Marty Krofft. Sid and Marty churned out some of the strangest children's programming this side of Rocky & Bullwinkle. Most folks don't know the names Sid and Marty Kroftt, but they sure remember their shows: Land of the Lost, Lidsville, Sigmund and the Sea Monsters (my favorite) and of course H.R. Puf N Stuff.

If you are unfamiliar with these shows, then you really need to check them out. A mix of live actors and tripped out puppet people, Sid and Marty's shows make Pee Wee's Playhouse seem completely normal. Talking flutes, pet dinosaurs, talking bugs & sea monster pals - Krofft's imagination knew no limits.

Saturday Morning with Sid & Marty Krofft is a classic collection of Saturday morning television history. Highly recommended.
