Cote D'Azur Sets DVD Release Date

It is being billed as "wonderfully naughty". Not sure what that means, but whatever it is, we are intrigued. What are we talking about? Well, Cote D'Azur of course. The French romantic sex comedy has set a DVD release date of February 7th. The following information is direct from Strand Releasing. We will keep you posted as we learn more.

"A broad, bawdy, silly French farce set on the Riviera in high season, “Cote D’Azur” is a fabulous, laugh-out-loud Francophile’s fantasy that will surely delight audiences of all ages, sexes and persuasions.

This breezy, crowd-pleasing sex romp is from writer-directors Olivier Ducastel and Jacques Martineau, two renowned European filmmakers perhaps best known for “The Adventures of Felix” and “My Life on Ice.” Made with ample amounts of French finesse and flair, “Cote D’Azur” provides a tantalizing cross-section of French culture, lifestyle, and sexual behaviors and attitudes, finely tuned with a biting wit and an expert eye for nuance and innuendo. Warmly received by French critics and filmgoers, “Cote D’Azur” has been eagerly embraced by their stateside counterparts.

Beatrix and Marc are an attractive married couple who settle into a Mediterranean house for a long, lazy summer with their two teenage children, Laura and Charly. Before you know it, Mom and Dad are slurping seafood from the shell and having sex, their teenage daughter is having sex and their adorable teenage son is thinking about sex a lot while he’s in the shower. Meanwhile, other friends and lovers show up with sex on their brains, not to mention confusion about who’s gay, who’s cheating on whom and who the heck is using up all the hot water in the shower.

Sassy, 19-year-old Laura quickly has a rendezvous with her biker boyfriend, while Charly, a moody, rebellious 16-year-old, roams around with his childhood friend Martin, who is in love with him. One look at the boys convinces Beatrix her son is gay – and she’s perfectly fine with that as it fits in with her self-described “tolerant” outlook on life. Then again, who is she to judge, as she’s having an affair, complete with late-night trysts and hushed phone calls. Marc’s old flame, of course, naturally appears as well, further turning the vacation into hilarious chaos.

The talented ensemble cast, led by popular French actors Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi and Gilbert Melki, seamlessly pull off this entertaining romp. Swimming with irreverent humor and snappy dialogue, “Cote D’Azur” is capped with vibrant musical numbers that add a special joie de vivre.

“You know this is a French movie,” writes the New York Daily News, “because everyone looks great, gets naked and later breaks into a peppy musical number about the joys of lobster and shellfish.”

“Cote D’Azur” was an Official Selection at the Tribeca Film Festival. It also screened as the prestigious Opening Night Film at both the San Francisco Lesbian and Gay Film Festival and Los Angeles’ Outfest.

The Los Angeles Times praised the film as “witty, buoyant and affectionate…delightful.” The New York Press exclaimed “fascinating and surprising.”
