Review: Who Killed The Electric Car? (B+)

Who Killed The Electric Car? ( (2006
Directed by Chris Paine
Grade: B+
Review by Scott Standish

Long derided as an unrealistic "tree-hugger" type solution, electric cars are suddenly back in the mainstream discussion. After watching Who Killed The Electric Car, it is clear why. Electric cars are more earth friendly than gas powered autos, and unlike hydrogen powered cars, they actually work (and are economically affordable).

Who Killed The Electric Car is a fascinating documentary on the rise and fall of the electic car program that was briefly popular in California. GM and others released electric cars that were received warmly by drivers throughout the state. Electric car owners absolutely loved them, but suddenly the automakers decided to kill the program, and take back all of the electric cars as soon as their leases ran out. This documentary investigates who was behind this massive effort to stop this successful conservation based automobile. As you might suspect, the usual suspects are to blame.

Who Killed The Electric Car is fascinating, thought provoking and at times, heart wrenching. An excellent documentary.
