Review By Scott Standish

You Are Alone is a sexually charged independent film that attempts to show how depressing loneliness is. Well, mission accomplished. This film is certainly a downer, pretty much from start to finish. There are some interesting moments here, and lots of frank talk about sex, but I must admit I was disappointed in the film's gloomy tone.

Jessica Bohl stars in You Are Alone as Britney, a teenage prostitute that specializes in young girl fantasies. She dresses like a catholic schoolgirl and does just about anything that a client wants. In the film, she comes to a hotel room to have sex with Buddy, a new client (played by Richard Brundage). Buddy has just gone through some rough times and he uses this opportunity to discuss the prostitution business with Britney. You know the questions by now: why do you do it, how long have you been doing it, etc.

The couple spends the entire movie in this dark hotel room discussing why their lives are off track. Soon into the film, it becomes obvious that the real question here is whether or not Buddy and Britney are even going to have sex. By the end of the film, I didn't really care if they did or not.

The ending, while a bit surprising, is not a big breakthrough. One wonders exactly what kind of message the filmmaker intended. Life is a bummer. Okay, got it. Thanks.
